The Gate Decision - at the end of the driveway

Move out day! After leaving our, now sold, home's front door behind us, and passing through our front gate, we met the country road. The start of our journey. A decision is being forced upon us. Do we turn Left or Right?

Video: Leaving our Home in the Sierra foothills. 40 miles north of Sacramento, California.

Leaving our Home in Northern California. And Heading North.

Mini Step 1

Our plan in 20, 30, 40, 100 years from now is to build a little house in the countryside of Washington State, New Zealand, Scotland or Canada. Somewhere high up on the world's Democracy Index. Peter was fed up with California's summer heat and he missed the greenery and the soggy rhododendrons of Scotland. Dawn is from Minnesota, land of lakes and Siberian alike winters. We both want to settle down in a greener, cooler, rainier climate than California.

Seattle, Washington or South Island New Zealand is about the same latitude as London, so their climates would be more familiar perhaps.

But that's getting way ahead of ourselves... we have a boat to build and sail round the world a few times first!

We planned to flag our future dream boat, Chloe as having her home port in Seattle, WA; as this might be our final final home. Registering a boat in the United State is a less complicated affair than other country's registrations can be. Co-incidentally a representative of our first choice boat builder of future Chloe, was located in Seattle too. So Seattle it was as our first , short term destination. We headed North - which meant turning Left after passing through the gate....

Bye Home... it was fun!
